Google Launches New Beta Version of its Recruiting App, 'Hire'
Google has announced a new beta version of 'Hire', its candidate searching and intuitive applicant discovery tool.
The announcement of the launch happened via a blog post from product manager, Omar Eduardo Fernandez.
Hire was initially launched in July; the app helps to connect and intersect G Suite apps such as Google calendar and Gmail. The new capability will help recruiters create a smart list of former candidates, who could be a better fit for new positions. Further, candidate discovery will help develop a list of candidates, with a focus on priority based on how their profile matches a particular job description, location, and employment title.
Speaking on the occasion, David Francis, Staffing Industry Analysts Research Manager, shared his thoughts on the app:
"Given Google’s search and artificial intelligence capabilities, they may be able to provide a unique approach in recruiting passive/pre-identified candidates, and will certainly add some spice to an already exciting and innovative space."
Fernandez, in his blog, shared the larger details driving Hire, and the intent and planning behind the app:
"It takes a search phrase like ‘sales manager Bay Area’ and immediately understands the skills and experiences relevant to that job title, as well as which cities are part of the Bay Area."
By using the app, recruiters can search and filter the selection based on former interactions with the candidate; these include interview feedback received or if a job was previously offered to them. Candidates with positive feedback will rank higher in the search option - while those who received an offer but had declined the same in the past, will rank higher than those who were rejected.
Experts suggest that the new move by Google was an initiative to take on the Microsoft-owned LinkedIn, which is possibly the world's most used professional network and offers search capabilities.
Hire is specifically targeted towards the G Suite SMB space; it customers are primarily in-house recruiters, with their hiring teams, such as interviewers and hiring managers.
