After Facebook Data Leaks, WhatsApp Assures Users 'Very Little Data' Is Collected
While this may be true that WhatsApp is not much interested in its users' messages and perhaps doesn't share that with its parent company Facebook, but it does share "information they collect under this Payments Privacy Policy with third-party service providers including Facebook". Messaging app WhatsApp which has 1.3 billion users globally and its largest user base in India is looking for a country head. Noting that nearly one-quarter or more of the world's population is using WhatsApp for free, New York-based attorney Ravi Batra said that it makes money by harvesting user data and using it in conjunction with others including Facebook. Based on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform, WhatsApp is soon to extend the service to all users in India. However these claims are disputed by Vivek Wadhwa, a tech entrepreneur and academic who told the PTI, "One-to-one communication between users are encrypted and may be as secure as WhatsApp claims". WhatsApp confirmed that very little data is collected and every message is encrypted end-to-end. "Whenever a new member joins a group all members receive a notification" this notification includes whether the person was added via group link or by an administrator directly. Group members can always see everyone in the group including their phone number and their name. "We make it easy to leave a group or block unwanted messages with one tap". This shocking announcement by WhatsApp comes at a perilous time when Facebook is already facing a heavy backlash from users regarding their security and protection of private data. "The privacy and security of our users is incredibly important to WhatsApp", the spokesperson told PTI in response to a question. Users have the option of turning off this feature. WhatsApp also responded to reports that groups might not be as secure and denied this was true. WhatsApp clause is breaching the NPCI's order which stated that the banks associated with third-party payment apps like WhatsApp and PhonePe need to get exclusive permissiosleted from a user's account, they can not be recovered either, because the company is not storing these on its servers. Facebook has around 250 million users and the company has been affected severely by the Facebook data leak scandal. The Insider Car News
